Restructuring Halts Toshiba Product Launch

Wearvue grew out of the Toshiba Glass concept, first seen in 2014 (Display Monitor Vol 21 No 41)An augmented reality product from Toshiba, called the Wearvue TG-01, has been scrapped – just one week before it was due to be shipped.

Toshiba announced the Wearvue, which was intended for users in warehouses and factories to look at information without using their hands, just after CES 2016. The company said on the 13th January that the product would begin to be shipped on the 29th February.

A lot of interest had been shown in the glasses-type device, and so Toshiba waited “until the very last minute” before deciding to cancel the launch, said a company spokesperson. The Wearvue was withdrawn because of restructuring plans (Toshiba Updates Forecasts, Deepens Loss), which require Toshiba to focus its resources more selectively.
