Republic of Gamers Announces Gaming Smartphone and Two New Notebooks

Asus’ sub-brand Republic of Gamers (ROG) recently hosted a press event at Computex 2018, unveiling a new line-up of gaming products, including the first ROG gaming smartphone.

The ROG Phone features a GameCool 3D vapour-chamber cooling system and ultrasonic AirTrigger touch sensors, with side-mounted ports optimised for landscape-mode, a 6” AMOLED display with 1080 x 2160 resolution and HDR visuals in an 18:9 aspect ratio, with a 90Hz refresh rate and a 1ms response time.

On the inside, the ROG Phone incorporates a 2.96GHz octa-core Snapdragon 845 chipset with an Adreno 630 GPU. It packs 8GB RAM and comes with either 128 or 512GB internal storage but has no means to add extra space via a memory card.

The device also features a 12+8-megapixel dual rear camera with phase detection autofocus and LED flash, plus an 8-megapixel internal camera.

The ROG Phone is scheduled for release during the third quarter of 2018.

The company also announced two new models of its Strix eSports gaming notebooks. The Scar II Edition is built exclusively for first-person shooter titles while the Hero II Edition is a version designed for multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) games.

They each incorporate an 8th Gen Intel Core i5 processor, with the option to upgrade to an i7, and up to 32GB RAM. Buyers also have the choice of an Nvidia GTX 1060 with 6GB RAM or a GTX 1070 with 8GB RAM.

Both new ROG Strix notebooks are available now, priced from $1,699.
