Report: No More 3D Touch for iPhone from 2019?

KGI Securities’ Ming-Chi Kuo has released more speculative information regarding Apple’s next generation of iPhones, stating that future iterations of the device will eliminate the 3D Touch feature first introduced in the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus. The feature’s removal has been attributed to new display technology involved in iPhone production, called CGS (Cover Glass Sensor), which integrates the touch sensor into the display. The tech reduces costs and weight, and improve durability, but prevents 3D Touch functionality.

According to Kuo, of the three models rumoured for release this year, the successor to the OLED iPhone X and its Plus equivalent will retain the 3D Touch feature, while the cheaper LCD variant will be the first to use the CGS technology and, as such, will not feature 3D Touch. Kuo also commented that, from 2019, all iPhones will use CGS, irrespective of display type. (More Confirmation of iPhone Plans)
