3M Touch had no new developments, but was highlighting the touch tables that it supports with object recognition.
Dynascan had quite a big booth. The company told us that it got a good project in the Middle East following its appearance last year, so it decided to come back again. There were no new products from the ISE presentation.
Epson was showing its LightScene projector which is intended for retail applications. (Epson LightScene Looks Like a Spotlight) It was garnering a lot of attention when we went by the booth. Epson was mainly emphasising its POS and printer products.
Giada was showing its latest media players and we had a look at the DN72 which is a fanless Android box using an RK3288 CPU with 2GB of memory and supporting UltraHD via HDMI. There is onboard storage of 16GB. The company is optimistic that the availability of such media players will help to boost the volume of UltraHD systems.
iBase was showing a new PC system that includes a single Matrox card that can support nine display for a 3 x 3 array using miniHDMI connectors and supporting up to 5760 x 3240 resolution. The system is based on the firm’s own motherboard and will be available from mass production early in Q3. The SI-61S uses Intel 6th and 7th Gen processors and can support dual 2.5″ SATA SSD. The company also has a four x UltraHD at 60fps system.
NEC was sharing a booth with a partner, Inurface Media and was highlighting its system solutions such as mirror displays, InGlass touch, high brightness and the new range of UltraHD displays that will be appearing during this year. We’ll be at the NEC Showcase in London in a couple of weeks and we expect to see more new hardware at that event.
Samsung had no new hardware compared to its ISE promotions, but we had a good catch up discussion on topics including the advantages that Samsung gets by developing its own LED controller. The company told us that it recently won a good order from a University department that was very concerned about the ability to generate good low grey scale levels with high accuracy. We also talked about the developments of Cinema LED and the firm was planning a big meeting with a major UK cinema chain on the afternoon of the show.
SES Imagotag was in a very positive mood. The company has recently been taken over by BOE and this has enabled the company to do much better in getting attention in the Chinese market. It has also opened up the supply chain, so the firm is seeing better supply conditions, which is a big help.
The company was highlighting its Vusion range (Vusion by SES-imagotag Wins RedDot Award) which is available in a wide range of sizes. The system also has new LED indicators which can be used to draw attention to individual labels or groups of labels. The range is supported by cloud-based software which also works much more quickly than previous versions because of improvements in the radio technology.
Sony was showing its systems integration capabilities and had quite an impressive AR system that could be used in a retail environment to allow staff to show ‘virtual objects’ or brochures. We see lots of these kinds of demos, but the Sony one seemed quite a good one!
Trueform has been working with Samsung and makes totems using Samsung LCDs for indoor or outdoor use. They have been supplied to the Westfield shopping centres in the UK (whereas Westfield in the US is working with Espirit & LG LG Has its Own Booth). The company told us that it has recently been successful winning business for bus shelters from TfL in London, and also new installations at Luton Airport. As well as projects in the UK, the firm has been working on projects in Beirut and also in the Ivory Coast.
TVOne is a name that we know from the broadcast side of the business, but it came to RDSE this time to show its Coriomaster Micro media player, which can be used to support video wall panels that can be configured in arbitrary configurations and PIP with images in differently shaped and oriented windows. The system can optionally support UltraHD at up to 60fps.
Uniview LED also has an LCD division as well as its LED displays. The company has a range from 21″ to 84″ and can offer a range of options from mirrors to touch.
