What They Say
We reported on a Qualcomm reference design for a handheld gaming device and the first partner was Razer, so it is not surprizing that Razer has developed a device, the Razer Ede 5G which was created in collaboration with Verizon and supports 5G. (Qualcomm & Razer Release Hand-held Gaming Reference Design). The Android -based device uses a 6.8″ 2400 x 1080 AMOLED with 144HZ.
The Snapdragon G3x features a 3Ghz octa-core Kryo CPU and an Adreno GPU. It has 8GB of RAM, storage of 128GB and a 5000 mAh battery. The Razer Edge 5G will launch in January exclusively through Verizon.
What We Think
5G has been promoted for its low latency and potentially high bandwidth so should be a natural for gaming devices. However, I have been underwhelmed by my experiences with a 5G phone for the last couple of months. Today I’m in Central Boston, Massachusets, with apparently a 5G connection, but with very slow mobile internet!
It’s good to see this device use an OLED as standard rather than as an upgrade. Then again, Razer has a premium marketing strategy, so it makes sense.(BR)
