Rakuten Kobo has two new eBooks, the 8″ Kobo Sage and the 7″ Libra 2.
The Kobo Sage has an EInk Carta 1200 display with resolution of 1440 x 1920 with 300ppi. The display has a 20% faster response time than E Ink Carta 1000 and a 15% improvement in contrast ratio. The book has a capacitive touch screen with support for a stylus. Other specs include a 1.8GHz quad-core processor with 32GB of storage and 512MB of RAM. It is rated to IPX 8 for survival after submersion at 2m for 60 minutes. It will cost $259.
The Libra 2 has a 7″ 1264 x 1680 E Ink Carta 1200 display and a capacitive touchscreen. There are white and amber front lights. The processor is 1GHz single core, with 32GB of storage and 512MB of RAM. It is also rated to IPX8. It has Bluetooth 5.1 and can connect to headphones and audio devices for audiobooks. It will cost $180.
What We Think
The Good EReader blog reports that standard Kindles cost as little as $60 now for the advertising-supported model and the waterproof Paperwhite model is just $90. I’m sure I’ve bought printed books that have been more expensive than that! (BR)
