Radiant-Opto, Coretronic See Sales Drop YoY

Taiwan’s major backlight unit (BLU) manufacturers reported year on year declines in sales in April, with Radiant falling 9.6% to NT$3.2 billion ($104.3 million) and Coretronic dropping 19.6% to NT$5.5 billion ($179.6 million). For the first quarter of the year, Radiant recorded turnover of NT$9.4 billion ($307 million), while Coretronic posted turnover of NT$15 billion ($489.9 million).

Radiant’s April sales were 4.7% higher month on month, bringing sales for the year to date to NT$21.7 billion ($708.7 million), down 21.7% compared with the same period a year earlier. The company shipped 6.9 million BLUs in April, of which 6.5 million units were for notebook use, 269,000 were used in monitors and 122,000 were TV-use.

Coretronic’s sales for the first four months of the year were 17.9% lower YoY at NT$21.3 billion ($695.7 million). The company’s BLU shipments increased 5% sequentially to 6.5 million units, though January to April shipments of 25 million were 10% lower. Coretronic shipped 81,600 projectors in April, slipping 7% MoM and 309,000 units in the January to April period, down 15% YoY.
