We have been reporting on QuirkLogic which makes the Quilla E-Ink-based collaboration display system since Infocomm in 2016 and we last caught up at CES. The company continues to develop although much of this is now in the software platform and the company is positioning itself strongly at the concept of ‘ideation’ or the creation of new ideas. That is partly to differentiate itself clearly from other collaboration products such as the Samsung Flip. The company told us that, compared to the Flip, it has heard that the experience of writing on the Quilla is much more like pen on paper.
The hardware is now shipping, with manufacture by Flex, and the battery life is now quoted at 16 hours, where it was stated as ‘all day’ at one time. The system now works with devices such based on Android or Chromebook architecture and by Q3 will also have support for iOS, Windows and Mac devices. Connections can be quickly made to the screen using a QR code. If you prefer hardware connections, rather than casting, you can use HDMI.
The company gave us the full demo of multiple Quillas and connections to remote systems.
One area where the company has seen good traction and demand for the Quilla is in hotels for meetings where the ease of movement is a real advantage.
