Qualcomm has unveiled its new mobile platform, Snapdragon 4 Gen 2, which aims to bring high-quality technologies, including advanced display and graphics processing capabilities, to the value tier of the mobile industry, with commercial devices slated to arrive in the second half of 2023.
The Snapdragon 4 Gen 2, as the first 4nm platform in the 4-series, has an extended battery life and enhanced overall platform efficiency. All that added batter power should help drive the display and the platform does support 120fps FHD+ displays, improving the expectations for display performance in the value segment for mobile devices.
There are also added, and complementary features in the photography and videography capabilities of the platform, with electronic image stabilization and faster autofocus, and the inclusion of multi camera temporal filtering (MCTF) in the hardware represents another first for the 4-series, which should give noise reduction and improved video quality. Additionally, there is also artificial intelligence (AI) enhancements, like an AI-based low-light feature for crisp images in dim environments and AI-enhanced background noise removal.
Redmi and Vivo are among the key OEM brands that will adopt the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 platform in their upcoming devices. More details on commercial availability will be released later in the year.
