Qualcomm’s smartphone application processor (AP) shipments will decline slightly in 2018, according to Digitimes Research.
The decline is attributed to the increased adoption of smartphone vendors’ own in-house developed APs. These chips are expected to account for 30% of all AP shipments in 2018.
Apple, Samsung and Huawei all manufacture their own APs. As vendors move towards using their own technology in their smartphones, chipmakers like Qualcomm, MediaTek, HiSilicon and Spreadtrum Communications are expected to see reduced orders.
