What They Say
Sigmaintell reported its late August panel pricing forecasxt for September, and sees a significant drop in TV panel prices, although moniitors and notebooks are relatively flat.
The firm sees smaller sizes of TVs dropping by up to 11.7% – with a $13 drop in 43″ Open Cell panels. Demand has fallen sharply as prices may have risen too much and the firm used the phrase ‘panic drop’ to describe the change.
Despite the drop in TV prices, notebook panels are continuing to ease upwards as IPS panel demand is relatively stable while low end TN panels for Chromebooks is declining.
What We Think
This is around the end of normal seasonal peak demand for TV panels and it would be no surprise to see TV set makers ‘sitting on their hands’ to put price pressure on panel vendors rather than stocking up. (BR)
