PMA Research Pro AV Channel Tracking Shows Double-Digit Growth for the Flat Panel Market in 2019

PMA Research (PMA), the worldwide market information experts on large displays, has published their latest sell-through tracking report on large-format (32″ and larger) flat panel displays being sold by leading N. American Pro AV dealers and Systems Integrators who serve commercial markets.

Compared to December 2018, both unit volume and revenues for sales of large-format flat panel displays sold through the North American Pro AV channel were up by double-digits. In addition, the fourth quarter marked the third consecutive quarter of year-on-year growth. For the entire year, unit sales closed 14% above last year and revenues were higher by 15% at the close of 2019.

Several key product segments fueled the 2019 year-over-year growth, including sales of 4K UHD, Interactive and Direct View LED displays.

While 4K UHD pricing has declined modestly since the beginning of 2019, prices for FHD displays increased as supplies dwindled. In 4Q2019, prices for FHD displays in the 50″- 55″ category, which are in high demand, were up close to 10%. In addition, there has been solid growth for interactive displays for the year. Unit sales in December 2019 were up by double-digits over December last year. This helped drive 2019 interactive sales to a record-high level and a gain of nearly 50% over 2018.

Finally, direct-view LED installations accounted for 15% of total revenues in December. For the full year of 2019, direct-view LED generated 8% of total revenues compared to just 1% of total revenues in 2018.
