Plastic Logic has developed a sample of a 10.7″ electrophoretic (EPD) display that can support 500 ppi. The panel uses the current front plane from E Ink, but a new higher density backplane that the company has developed. The company’s previous maximum was 197 ppi.
The key application of the technology is the display of fine characters, especially those used in Asian fonts.
Separately, Plastic Logic has said that it has conducted user research with 1,986 consumers of whom 72% said that they would find wearables more compelling if they had longer battery life. More than half said they had trouble reading the display in sunlight and 40% were frustrated with the fragility of current displays. (BR)
