What They Say
Planar launched two ranges of LED-based displays for high end consumers, the Planar Luxe MicroLED and Planar Luxe LED displays in these sizes:
- MicroLED 108″, 136″, 163″ (all 4K) and 217″ (8K) sizes
- LED 109″, 137″ (both FullHD), 164″. 219″ (both 4K) and
- LED ‘Double Full HD Wide view 198″
The displays will be demonstrated at an in-house event from September 1st to 3rd.
What We Think
We were surprised to see a ‘Double FullHD’ so we contacted Planar. The firm confirmed it was 3840 x 1080 resolution and that confused me. Although I wouldn’t buy one, I can just about understand why somebody would want a 21:9 display in the home, but 32:9? In a meeting room or schoolroom with touch, sure. On a desktop with a curve for gaming, sure. For some office productivity, sure. Anyway, Planar came back to us to confirm that it has introduced the size to meet a need from sports bars that want to be able to show multiple feeds. Apparently some consumers also want to have a sports bar-like ambience at home.
The 198″ specification sheet is here. It is a 1.2mm display with 600cd/m² of output and I couldn’t see anything that looks particularly noteworthy.
However, the brightness of the microLED displays looks pretty good. (BR)
