Pixelworks, a provider of visual processing solutions, has announced that ZTE’s Axon 9 Pro smartphone incorporates Pixelworks’ third-generation Iris chipset, powering its video streaming and picture quality. The company says that the technology enables the device to deliver smooth, blur-free HDR video and enhanced colour contrast.
The Axon 9 Pro also features a 6.2″ AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080 × 2248, 402 pixels per inch, an 83.3% screen-to-body ratio and HDR10. The Android Oreo operating system is powered by a Snapdragon 845 chipset with 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage. A micro SD card slot also provides the means to upgrade the storage by another 512GB.
The 20+12MP dual-lens primary camera can shoot video in up to 2160p30, while the 20MP internal camera sticks to 1080p30. Both can capture in HDR. The device also features a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor and USB-C connectivity.
ZTE formally introduced the Axon 9 Pro smartphone during a launch event at the IFA trade show in Berlin, Germany. It is scheduled to launch in Germany by the end of September, priced at €649 ($755). A wider rollout has not yet been announced.
However, the company has said the device will not be coming to the US. ZTE shaved a nine-figure sum off its earnings report for the first quarter of 2018 after the US administration imposed a ban preventing the company from sourcing components from American firms.
