Pimax “8K” VR Headset Enters Mass Production

Pimax has announced that the ongoing development troubles surrounding its “8K” M1 VR headset have now been eliminated and the device has entered mass production.

Pimax says that pre-production headsets sent out in May — having been subject to several delays due to a lens design issue — have provided the company with valuable feedback and the device is now ready for delivery to its Kickstarter backers.

The company provided an update on the headset’s final specification, revealing that users will be able to extend the field of view from 170° to 200°, based on their preference and the capability of their graphics hardware. The device and its controllers will also incorporate SteamVR 2.0 tracking sensors and deliveries will include two SteamVR base stations.

A delivery timeframe hasn’t yet been confirmed. A Kickstarter campaign for the device was launched in September 2017 and raised over $3 million in as many months.

Pimax also confirmed that a business edition of the device, with its own exclusive colour palette, will launch at a later date.

I’ve only tried Kickstarter once. As an experiment, I ordered an Android ‘add-on’ shell, the Superbook, from Andromium. I’m just under two years in, so far, but have still not seen the product! I have had lots of emails explaining what has been going wrong, but it is somewhat frustrating! (BR)
