Pico Going to US for Content and Sales

What They Say

Protocol Entertainment reports that the ByteDance (TikTok) owned company, Pico is setting up a team on the West Coast of the USA to develop content licensing and to start marketing its products in the US. There are reports that the firm has been offering ‘tons of money’ for VR games and content. The firm currently has more than 40 job listings in the Bay Area, Seattle and San Diego. The jobs include a Head of Consumer Sales who will be “responsible for the sales and marketing of Pico’s overall product in the US consumer market,” according to the job description.

The firm started marketing its headsets in Europe last month. (Pico Headset Comes to Europe).

What We Think

Of course, it’s challenging to compete with Meta’s Quest 2 which is reported to be selling at its BOM cost to help Meta to develop the XR market opportunity. Still, ByteDance should not be short of cash with the success of TikTok. I’ve been away this last weekend in historic Rome and the sheer number of young (usually female) tourists that seem to be getting TikTok or Instagram selfies/videos with the backdrop of a historic or iconic scene is amazing to me.
