Philips was showing the latest 0.9mm bezel LCD video wall panels which are available in 55″ and with 500 or 700 cd/m² of output. One of the features is the inclusion of an OPS slot which enables Android support even on these units, which do not have the Philips SoC Android system.
The new Q Series will be available in 49″, 55″, 65″, 75″ and 86″ and will support Android using a Rockchip RK3399 SoC. There will also be new 86″ and 98″ models in the PL line. A new model is a 75″ high brightness model with UltraHD resolution and 3,000 cd/m² of output.
One of the advantages that Philips claims is that its UltraHD panels have systems that can support UHD playback. Other vendors, they say, may have UHD panels, but the media players internally cannot support that resolution.
Philips sourced its first narrow pitch LED systems from an established vendor, but from what we heard privately, it wouldn’t surprise us if, for the next generation, it looks at a number of alternative supply options.
