According to Dataxis, pay TV in Latin America reached 71.4 million subscribers in the first quarter of 2018, which represents a drop of around 0.1% compared to the end of 2017. Venezuela, Brazil and Mexico recorded the highest loss of subscribers.
América Móvil remained the main pay TV group in Latin America in terms of subscribers. Although the company held 19.2% of subscribers, its dominance has declined due to the weight of Brazil in its portfolio.
DirecTV came in second place in terms of subscriber count but first in terms of revenue. Televisa rounded out the top-three with a healthy subscriber base but the lowest ARPU.
Although DTH represented 48.7% of subscribers, it was the sector that saw the biggest drop in subscriber count. Meanwhile, Cable and IPTV showed some progress.
