The rugged line-up of phones offered by Tech Data has been expanded with products from RugGear Europe. Feature phones, smartphones and tablets for the B2B and B2C channels are now being offered in Germany and Austria.
According to a blog post by NPD DisplaySearch’s David Hsieh (http://tinyurl.com/lgjjegh), panel makers need to ramp up production of iPhone 6 and 6 Plus panels quickly. DisplaySearch estimates that Apple has ordered more than 100 million such panels for 2014. Shipments for the handsets are likely to be in the range of 70-80 million units.
Sources in the upstream supply chain say that Foxconn is seeking to reduce its dependence on business from Apple. The company has been ‘aggressively’ assisting Chinese smartphone brands, such as Xiaomi, Oppo and Meizu.
Apple will receive 9.7″ and 12.9″ panels for its iPads from Samsung Display in the second half of this year, Korea’s Inews24 claims. Most of the output from one of the company’s G5 lines will be dedicated to Apple’s tablets.
