What They Say
The BBC had a look at a rollable smartphone concept developed by Oppo. The broadcaster said that there is a crease, but it’s not visible in use. The smartphone is said to have been tested with 100K expansion operations, which are motorised. When squeezed in the extended mode, the display rolls up to the smaller size
Oppo told the BBC that it has developed the device independently, but is not yet ready to bring it to the market yet.
What We Think
The rollable concept is an attractive one, to me, but there are a lot of practical issues. The device that Oppo showed the BBC, for example, didn’t have a selfie-phone. Extra space and power consumption for the motors must be a challenge compared to folding devices. (BR)
