China’s OnePlus has designed a VR viewer specifically to promote the launch of its next flagship phone. 30,000 units, which require a smartphone to act as the display, were given away on a first-come, first-served basis. As well as normal VR content, users will be able to watch the unveiling of the new phone at a fictional space station called The Loop. They will also be able to browse a virtual shopping centre and buy the phone. The viewer does not have any external controls – it is entirely passive.
