Omdia: LG Electronics OLED TV shipments grew 80% in Q3 2020

What They Say

The Korea Herald reported data from Omdia that highlighted that LG Electronics has now shipped over 10 million OLED TVs since 2013, after sales in Q3 of 2021 came in at 899K units. That was up 80% year on year and a new record for the firm. LG expects to sell over four million sets this year. It took from 2013 to 2020 to go from zero to five million and so the rate has accelerated well. The ASP for the firm’s OLED sets is $1,863 (which means a market value of $1.3 billion in Q3, by my calculation).

Q4 could hit an overall total of 2 million OLED TVs overall, a new record. The paper reported LGE as claiming that it has a 60% share of the OLED TV set market.

Omdia is quoted as forecasting 6.5 million OLED set sales in 2021.

What We Think

I was watching a great BBC documentary ‘Universe’ on my OLED TV last night and it’s a great TV to watch that kind of content – lots of dark skies and starfields. (BR)
