Omate Breaks Smartphone Link

Two years ago, Omate raised over $1 million on Kickstarter to fund its first Truesmart smartwatch. Now, it has announced that its newest product – the Truesmart+ – will be a standalone model that does not require a link to a smartphone.

Running full Android 5.1, the Truesmart+ can be used to make calls, texts and write emails, thanks to its micro-SIM slot, as well as gaming. A sensor hub from Bosch is installed, supporting always-on sensing such as fitness tracking and step counting. WiFi and 2G/3G connectivity, as well as GPS antennas, are integrated into the watch’s rubber straps.

The Truesmart+ features a 1.54″ curved TFT-LCD display with 320 x 320 resolution. The unit uses a dual-core 1GHz Mediatek processor, with 8GB of storage and 1GB of RAM, as well as a 600mAh battery.

Omate’s watch is available for pre-order today and will be shipped in November. It will cost $170. The lower-cost Truesmart-i (Android 4.4, 240 x 240 resolution) will cost $150.
