What They Say
Quoting Omdia as the source, the BusinessKorea blog reported that OLED TVs accounted for 38.9% of the value of LGE’s total TV sales in Q4 2021, up from 20.4% in Q4 2019 and a new record share. Overall, LGE took 18.5% of the global TV market in Q4 (which makes LGE’ OLED TVs worth 7.2% of all TV sales by revenue, by our calculation).
The HE Business Division which looks after the TV division saw sales growth of 30.6% in 2021 to $13.88 billion. Sales are expected to stay at about $3.6 billion in Q1 2022 and analysts say that LGE will see more than 5 million TV sales this year.
LG Display also did well in 2021, with sales of $23.45 billion in 2021, up 23.1%, and with 40% of sales coming from OLEDs. Profit for LGD was $1.8 billion in 2021. Large OLEDs should get past 10 million units this year.
The article quotes Omdia as forecasting QD-OLED production from SDC at 1.25 million in 2022.
What We Think
Although LGD is finally getting its large OLED business to profit, investors have not been over impressed. (BR)
