OLED Smartphone Panel Revenues Expected to Increase 39% Y/Y in 1H 2021

What They Say

DSCC has released a new version of its Advanced Smartphone Feature Report and published some useful charts from the report on its blog. The charts highlight the strong seasonal nature of the market mainly due to Apple’s typical product release timings.

As well as the charts we have published below, DSCC released charts on rigid vs flexible OLEDs and shipments by panel supplier.

For OLED panel shipments by panel supplier, shipments continue to be dominated by Samsung with 75% share in Q1’21, followed by LGD at 8% share and BOE at 6% share. By flexible substrates, Samsung had 65% share in Q1’21 followed by LGD at 16% share and BOE at 13% share. For rigid substrates, Samsung had an 86% share followed by EDO and Visionox, both at 6% share. In Q3’21, we expect to see 25% growth by Visionox as a result of several design wins.

What We Think

It’s striking how Apple’s revenue share of OLED smartphones is likely to stay at more than 50% this year. (BR)
