UBI posted some interesting data on the development of the OLED industry in the first half of 2020. The overall market was flat in volume and down slightly in value.
Panels for watches were up from 22 million in the first half of 2019, to 33.5 million. However, the market for smartphone OLEDs dropped by more from 200.41 million to 189.82 million. Foldable panels went up from 70K in 1H 2019 to 1.72 million.
The company posted some interesting charts on sales by vendor as well as the overall numbers.
The firm also looked at glass area by country and forecast that in terms of the sales of small/medium panels, Korea would drop from 56.5% this year to just below 40%, while China would grow from that level to around 56%.
What We Think
The changes will partly influenced by Samsung increasing its flexible panel capacity, with Y-Octa which will reduce the efficiency of fabs, but increase revenues. (BR)
