Old devices can soon also be disposed of in supermarkets

What They Say

The Gfu reported in Germany that the obligation to accept old electronic devices for disposal and recycling is being extended in the country from specialist stores to supermarkets with more than 800 m² of store area. They also have to offer electrical appliances ‘several times per year’. Devices have to have an edge length up to 25cm.

Online retailers will also in the future have to actively offer free collection and disposal.

What We Think

Supermarkets such as Aldi and Lidl branches often have special promotions of electricals/electronics even if the main products are groceries and food items. The size limitation means that smaller stores such as those in the Tchibo coffee chain, which has had promotions in the past, will be exempt. (BR)
