Jason Rubin, head of content at Oculus VR, said that ‘roomscale’ (360°) tracking (like that supported by the HTC Vive) may not be necessary for VR. Oculus has so far focused on front-facing VR experiences, with the trackers for its Touch controllers placed directly in front of the user. Speaking at Gamescom in Germany, Rubin said roomscale VR may not be practical for everyone, especially people with smaller homes. He added, “we support it, we’re fully capable of it, we’ll probably support full 360, we may support roomscale, but it will not be required to have a fantastic time in VR.”
