Oculus Acquires Surreal Vision

Oculus has announced its acquisition of Surreal Vision, a UK-based company which has been working to refine software that can accurately and quickly build 3D maps of physical environments, which it calls simultaneous location and mapping. Financial details were not disclosed.

Surreal Vision describes itself as a “team of computer vision scientists tackling the most ambitious perception problems for a new generation of spatially-aware computing”. The three founders of the company, Richard Newcombe, Renato Salas-Moreno and Steven Lovegrove, who met at Imperial College London while studying for their doctorates in robotic vision, will join Oculus Research in Redmond, Washington.
