What They Say
Nvidia has changed its qualifications for products to carry the ‘G-Sync Ultimate’ badge. While last year the requirement was for 1,000 cd/m² output, now the requirement is ‘lifelike HDR’.
What We Think
The issue here, as it has been with other image quality certification schemes, is that OLEDs and LCDs really have very different characteristics and OLEDs can still provide a great HDR experience, even when the peak brightness is well below that level. Clearly, Nividia is expecting to see some G-Sync Ultimate OLED monitors before too much longer and, of course, there are more and more TV-derived monitors that are aimed at gamers. (BR)
