Nvidia went past MediaTek to get into third place in the ranking of fabless IC design companies published by Topology Research (part of TrendForce of Taiwan). Broadcom remained top with Qualcomm just behind. Nvidia did well in data centres and professional visualisation markets, rather than in gaming. On the other hand, Topology said that the company is having “issues in developing a successful product strategy”. The company also said that Qualcomm’s launch of the SnapDragon 660, 630 and 450 designs could mean that the firm may make further design wins and boost its position.
Overall, Topology said that Q3 is expected to see growth.
