NPO and YouTube Call Time on Older Smart TVs

Dutch public broadcaster NPO has decided to drop support of its NPO app on smart TVs made before 2014. According to the broadcaster, older smart TVs are not able to support the new functionalities of the app, but TVs from LG, Panasonic, Philips and Samsung introduced from 2014 onwards can access the new app.

NPO suggest that owners of older TV sets turn to Chromecast or Airplay devices in order to continue accessing the NPO apps.

Google has also announced that its YouTube Flash app will no longer works on smart TVs introduced in 2012 or before. However, the newer, HTML5-based YouTube app still supports smart TVs from 2013 onwards.
