Notebooks Hit Record High Sales in 2020

What They Say

Digitimes Research (DR) said that global notebook shipments reached 60 million units in Q4 2020, up 10% sequentially and bringing annual sales to 201 million units, up 25%. The analyst expects shipments to fall by just 10% this quarter, less than the typical seasonal drop for Q1 of 15% to 25%. It reports that Lenovo had higher inventory in the US and Europe in the channels in Q4, so may see more of a drop than other major brands.

DR expects Chromebook market growth to help HP more than Dell.

For ODMs, Quanta has seen stable shipments to Apple and education-use Chromebooks from Japan. Compal should sustain the same share as last quarter.

What We Think

DR didn’t comment on gaming notebooks, but, of course, they have also been doing well and should continue to do so. (BR)
