What They Say
Invidis reported a talk at the Best Medientechnik 2021 event that highlighted the issues of fireproofing of digital signage. The integration supplier, Ben Hur, collaborated with Lang AG and the Job Group to develop a solution for Frankfurt airport in 2020. Walter Jünkering of Ben Hur said that a lack of specific regulations makes fireproofing of displays a particular challenge. Because of this, projects with a high fire security requirement need custom solutions and, often, a ‘trial and error’ approach.
Actions needed include replacing flammable plastic components with metal parts and the integration of extinguishing systems. Displays can be placed under sprinklers but that can destroy them if the sprinkler is triggered.
What We Think
This article reminds me that we carried a story about fire housings for digital signage several years ago. Again, the story was from Germany and at the time, the article said that most sales were in DACH. (MIB Offers Fire Protection for Displays) There was also a story about a fire in a big LED that we reported a couple of years ago. I half remember a story about a digital sign causing a fire at a prestigious location as I remember calling a friend in the business and saying ‘I hope it wasn’t one of yours’. However, Amazon’s use of the Fire brand name has meant that my search for the article has defeated me! (BR)
