What They Say
Nintendo had its best financial quarter for April-June, reporting a 427% rise to $1.3 billion (¥144 billion) because of strong demand for the Switch console as well as good software sales including “Animal Crossing: New Horizons”.
What We Think
“It’s an ill wind that blows nobody any good” is an old English expression to mean that even bad times help somebody. The lockdowns around the world have helped boost game sales and Nintendo sold 10 million copies of Animal Crossing and total sales hit 50 million. The positive trend for games should help Microsoft and Sony with their new console launches. Nintendo has tended to follow a less technology-driven approach to its consoles and the Switch has been very popular with families. (BR)
