A new report from Rethink Research says that ‘fallout from HEVC’ is damaging the adoption of VVC, but AV1 adoption is rising because of Android TV and OTT delivery. At the same time, the firm said that LCEVC is taking root. The firm said that the value of the codec device royalty market will grow to $7.62 billion annually in 2030. The report suggests that

“OEMs will have to loosen their purse strings to keep up with consumer demand”

What We Think

V-Nova (the developer of LCEVC) is reported to have published a paper highlighting some issues with AV1 when it is significantly constrained, and we have reached out to them to try to get a copy.
