Collins Aerospace Systems, a unit of Raytheon Technologies Corp., unveiled a new simulation and training solution that provides an enhanced immersive experience for commercial airline pilot training. This system combines commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) 4K projector technology with the Collins Aerospace EP®-8100 image generation system and 3DWholeEarth environment model to create a visual scene at the highest resolution available.
“A realistic training environment is critical for successful training of commercial airline pilots. Our new solution takes into account the smallest detail, such as out of the window images that provide critical cues for flying scenarios — taking realism to the next level,” said Nick Gibbs, vice president and general manager, Simulation and Training Solutions for Collins Aerospace.
Previous visual system solutions often featured 3D terrain with 2D texture and some 3D environmental features, which do not give a truly realistic depiction of a pilot’s external environment. Now, Collins Aerospace is applying its vast experience in 3D technology to deliver a 3D WholeEarth model, where naturally occurring and man-made 3D objects are applied globally. 3D WholeEarth also features auto generated geo-typical worldwide imagery for a totally immersive training environment.
