What They Say
The VR/AR Association reported a forecast from ARtillery Intelligence that suggests that VR revenue will grow sharply in 2022 to 2024 after recovering in 2021 to pre-Covid levels. The key growth segment will be consumer spending which will grow from $2.7 billion in 2020 to over $8 billion in 2024, driven by Facebook’s investments, especially by the Quest 2 headset. The headset is priced to drive market adoption. Overall the market will grow by 19.6% CAGR.
The analyst expects headset sales to increase from 5.4 million units last year to 14.3 million in 2024 (PC/Stand-alone & console). That would mean an installed base of 34 million units, with the Sony headsets being the largest installed base today, but with Quest 2 overtaking in 2022.
Supply chains have been a challenge in 2020, but demand remains robust.
There’s a short video talk here that summarises the overall points above.
What We Think
I don’t know ARtillery but the endorsement of the Association does give some credibility (although they are unlike to endorse a gloomy forecast!) (BR)
