Sony is to release an update for the PlayStation 4 that will will enable playback of 3D Blu-ray movies in PlayStation VR headsets, plus support for external HDDs. These updates will feature in software version 4.50. The update is available now for beta testers and will be released to everyone later.
The addition of external HDD support will be included for those that require more storage space for storing games. Connection to the PS4 will be via a USB 3.0 hard disc drive.
Custom wallpaper, quick menu refresh, simplified notifications list and PS4 Pro boost mode will also be included in the release.
The release will be available on PS4, PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro. Sony has yet to confirm an official release date. Sony stated that it has additional features planned for software version 4.50 that have yet to be announced.
