Panasonic has pre-announced three new 1 chip DLP projectors that will be available in October and will have 8,000 (PT-RDQ80), 9,000 (PT-RDQ90) and 10,000 (PT-RDQ10) from 0.66″ (16.8mm) diagonal 2716 x 1528 chip and with ‘smooth pixel drive’ to support UltraHD resolution. Contrast is 10,000:1 full on/off and there is a powered zoom lens (throw ratio 1.6-2.58:1) as standard although optional lenses including UST are available. The light source is laser phosphor-based and is rated at 20K hours.
Features include ±60% vertical lens shift and ±25% horizontally. There are HDMI inputs and LAN ports as well as a Slot NX interface.
The units are 498 x 200 x 538 mm (19 19/32? x 7 7/8? x 21 3/16? ) excluding lens and weigh 25kg, although these details are to be confirmed.
What We Think
The projector market continues to lag direct view display and one of the marketing points of these projectors are that they have UltraHD support, something that it is taken for granted over most of the flat panel market these days. (BR)
