What They Say
Epson launched some new high brightness LCD projectors using 1.03″ 1920 x 1200 3LCD engines and from 13K to 20K Ansi Lumens (and CLO, of course). The units have laser light sources and are claimed to be the smallest ever with this class of output. The 2K EB-PU2220B has dimensions of 586? x 492 x 218 mm (Width x Depth x Height) (23″ x 19.4″ x 8.6″).
What We Think
Epson had promised an interview with a product manager to get more info, but this has not happened yet. We’ll have more when it does. By my calculations, this size and power means around 317 lumens/litre – the kind of metric that I used to use a lot when checking projector claims. Another that was important was Lumens/watt. In this case, the unit uses 1,301 W which means around 15 lumens/watt – a level that doesn’t seem to have significantly changed for years, although it’s probably pretty good given the light source and what should be a better colour gamut than older projectors.
