What They Say
Loewe, which was taken over by Skytec Group at the beginning of the year (What Bob Saw on the Net 23/01/2020), has started to sell OLED TVs, now that continue to be made in Germany. There are two models, the Bild 7 (55 “) and Loewe Bild 5 (65”) and they will be marketed for commercial TV use (corporate and hotel TV) as well as high end consumers.
Separately, Sharp sent an email to tell us that that Skytec would be rebranded as Sharp Consumer Electronics. Sharp extended its ownership of the company that had been UMC Poland in the past to 100% earlier in 2020. The firm also has control of the Blaupunkt brand.
What We Think
Especially with the Sharp NEC change, there is clearly a lot of re-alignment going on in the Sharp group. The ownership of Loewe in Europe avoids the dilution of the strength of the Sharp brand for LCD TV in Europe. (BR)
