Netflix put an end to speculation when it said that it would work with Microsoft to develop a new tier of subscription that is supported by advertising. The firm highlighted Microsoft’s innovation and technology as well as strong privacy protections.
There had been rumours that the streamer might sign with Roku, Comcast or Google.
The Information pointed out that there are longstanding ties between Netflix and Microsoft. Microsoft’s No. 2 executive, Brad Smith, is on Netflix’s board of directors, and Netflix’s co-CEO Reed Hastings previously served on the Microsoft board.
What We Think
I admit to a real dislike of Microsoft’s own account management systems so I hope what it does with Netflix does not cause its account management to get more complex! (BR)
