Netflix Testing “Ultra” Subscription Tier for HDR Content

Netflix is thinking of introducing a new “Ultra” tier to its subscription plan structure, for HDR content. The new plan is being tested with select customers in Europe.

The platform currently has three subscription tiers: Basic, for standard resolution, Standard for HD, and Premium for Ultra HD and — for now — HDR. What this essentially means is that prices for HDR content could be increased under the new structure.

Users selected to test the new tier are apparently seeing their simultaneous streams drop from four to two on their old Premium plans, indicating that the ability to run four simultaneous streams may also be reserved for Ultra subscribers in the future.
