Reed Hastings, CEO of Netflix, has said that he does not believe in the VR format. In an interview with VentureBeat, Hastings said that he believes that VR will have “a big impact” in gaming, but not so much in video content as it is too immersive. “You’re exhausted after 20 minutes”, he said. “We are more focused on a lean-back, relaxing experience.” Chief content officer Ted Sarandos added that VR suffers from a ‘chicken-and-egg’ dilemma: “[T]here’s not enough people on the platform to support the investment in that kind of content.”
