In a press release careful to keep the headline positive, NEC Display Solutions in the US announced that it would cease development of diagnostic medical monitors. It will remain in the healthcare market with clinical review, administration and back offic, signage, wayfinding and conferencing products.
Analyst Comment
We spoke to NEC who confirmed to us that this only affects future products. Existing products will continue to be supplied and existing commitments will be honoured. The radiology display market has stabilised and there is increasing competition. Other players are developing into operating room displays and endoscopy, but NEC has not pushed into those areas, so must be seeing flat or declining revenues in the segment, so the move is understandable. We observed that NEC dropped out of the ERC trade show earlier this year in Vienna. (BR)
