Myopia correcting ‘smart glasses’ from Japan to be sold in Asia

What They Say

Kubota Pharmaceutical has developed ‘smart glasses’ that are said to correct myopia (shortsightedness) without surgery. The firm said that wearing the glasses for 60 to 90 minutes per day corrects the error of the longer term. Nikkei said that tests continue to determine how long the effect lasts and whether the change is permanent.

Kubota began clinical trials on the device last July after confirming the therapeutic effect of the mechanism using a desktop system. It is also developing a contact lens-type myopia correction device.

What We Think

Well, it’s not really a display, but I’m fond of saying that ‘a display without a person has no purpose’. On that basis, this is interesting, especially if the optical effect could be replicated in AR or VR systems. (BR)
