MSI Highlights QD OLED and Adds Touch Display

What They Say

MSI has again highlighted its 34″ QD-OLED panel-based gaming monitor in a global product launch. (Dell Alienware AW3423DW QD-OLED Review & MSI Joins In)  It’s base specification is similar to the Dell/Alienware and Samsung products and it will support up to 175Hz refresh and 65W PD via USB-C. No details of the VRR technology to be used have yet been provided and the product details and pricing will be announced next year. MSI highlighted its OLED Care programme that is intended to reassure those worried about OLED lifetimes.

In its product announcement video, it also showed a desktop PC with a 4.5″ touch screen intended to allow the change of settings and configurations without the need to pop up a menu that might disturb the gaming experience. You can see the section of the presentation here.

What We Think

There are some tough challenges for those selling QD OLED monitors. There are three premium brands but the specifications are going to be so close in terms of the key image quality and speed features that a lot of the competition will be about price and supply, I think. You could add a lot of features, but then, as Dell has had to do, you could find your pricing a bit high and have to introduce a cut down version. Still, the performance of the display is compelling.   (BR)
