This might not seem like a big deal, but it is likely to be key to Motorola’s value proposition going forward. The company can roll-out upgrades faster, for example, and allow people to choose to add them for themselves. It will also bring some of the joy back into shopping – when someone designs their own product, even if it’s just choosing from a fairly limited list of parts, there is a more personal attachment to the item.
